As an innovative place for children to discover, experience and participate in the performing arts, Whidbey Children’s Theater decided to also try a new and creative means of fundraising by trying a “crowdfunding” campaign on the Internet.
The problem is, it’s not working as well as WCT staff hoped.
“It’s not moving as quickly as I think we thought it would,” said WCT Artistic Director Rose Woods.

This was Sally Miller Outlaw’s reply:
“The best assurance is that we, as the founders of the crowdfunding platform—are the ones actually running the campaign. In the two years we have been operating peerbackers—with full access to the capital that comes through our site—we have yet to run off with anyone’s funds
Also – I’m married to a guy who has a high level position with The Department of Homeland Security so I’m sort of in the law enforcement family!”
